Full Name: Narcissa Vela Black (formerly Malfoy) Nicknames: Cissy, Cissa Journal:narkoa Age: 41 (almost 42) Birthday: Nov 19, 1955 Loyalty: None Marital Status: Single. Her marriage to Lucius Malfoy was dissolved. Bloodline: Pureblood Sexuality: Heterosexual House: Slytherin Year Graduated: Occupation: None Played By: Diane Kruger
Strengths: intelligent, self aware, strong Weaknesses: stubborn, vain, avoidant Likes: the sea, traveling, deep conversations, reading, gardening, taking care of herself, being alone Dislikes: pureblood elitism, Lucius, Pansy etc Overall Personality: Narcissa has come to peace with life and her situation in it. When once she would have been considered the perfect pureblood daughter who held all of the right beliefs her world and her views on it has been shaken after a cheating husband expected her to raise another woman's daughter. Her years in Greece have changed her into the woman she is today.
Narcissa has an opinion and it isn't what you'd expect from Druella's protege. She has come to find that muggles aren't all that bad really, and even have some interesting ways to make up for their lack of magic. Because of her new outlook on life she tends to be fairly argumentative towards people who have differing opinions. She believes that all the pureblood elitism in the world is ridiculous and that the people who believe in it are just ignorant. She makes it her business to 'set them straight.'
Otherwise Narcissa is calm, strong, enjoys cooking and even cleaning and gardening. She still hold her stubborn trait that is apparent in most of the Black family members, but she realizes this about herself and tries to remind herself that she needs to be yielding. She is extremely self aware and intelligent. She's spent the last 12 years learning about herself and what she wants from life.
Parents: Cygnus and Druella Black Siblings: Bellatrix and Andromeda Black Significant Other: None Children: Draco Malfoy (technical step mother to Pansy Malfoy) Overall Family Dynamics: Narcissa hasn't spoken to anyone in her family for well over 6 years. They actually believe her to be dead. Once she arrives in game I imagine it will be a huge shock to everyone.
History: Narcissa was born on a dark November day in 1955 to Cygnus and Druella Black as their last ditch attempt at a son and heir. When the blonde-haired, blue-eyed baby entered their life they decided it was time to cut their losses and forget about having a boy. That is not to say that they were not excited about having a little girl, it was actually quite the opposite. Druella took an intense liking to Narcissa right off the bat and took the child under her wing. While most parents would never dream of calling one child a "favorite" Cygnus and Druella both had one and were extremely apparent about it. Cygnus took a liking to the first born Bellatrix and poor Andromeda suffered from middle-child syndrome. She was well cared for, but did not receive the extra special attention that both Bellatrix and Narcissa got.
Narcissa followed her mother around like a lost puppy during most of her childhood. It wasn't unless her mother wanted time alone that she would go and follow Bellatrix or Andromeda around. To her, her mother was the most fascinating, beautiful, caring, perfect woman in the whole entire world and she wanted to be just like her. Druella started teaching Narcissa at a young age what it was like to be a pureblood wife, even taking the time to teach Narcissa how to clean and cook should the need ever arise. As if for whatever god-awful reason there were no House-elves around it would certainly be expected of her. Druella also taught Narcissa exactly how to act, how to sit with her legs crossed at the ankle, how to properly hold a teacup, even how to insult someone without their ever knowing it. Narcissa reveled in these lessons and couldn't wait until the day she was married. It was the day she looked forward to the most, that is until Druella told Narcissa about her débutante ball. Her Débu would signify the day she was old enough to marry, and would show all of the eligible bachelor pureblood boys just what she was made of. She delighted in the idea of it.
Narcissa grew up a well-mannered girl who stayed out of her father's way. She knew that if she wanted something from her father she would have to ask her sister Bellatrix or her Mother to get it for her. Still, Narcissa was never left wanting for anything. She was extremely spoiled and coddled by her mother. She became quite vain even as a child because of how much praise she got from family members about straying so far from the 'normal' Black look. True, there were even whispers that Druella had strayed from Cygnus' side because she looked so different, but the truth of the matter was that Narcissa was just blessed. She led a charmed life.
When Narcissa was five years old her first real display of magical powers happened. Bellatrix became angered with Narcissa when she stole one of the girl's toys. Later that night Bellatrix snuck into her sister's room and cut all of her hair off. When Narcissa awoke she immediately started crying and ran to her mother for help, but by the time she arrived her long, blonde hair had been restored. Druella praised Narcissa for showing her magical abilities and not being a squib. Bellatrix never got in trouble for the incident. They knew that Narcissa would join her sisters to Hogwarts.
Bellatrix was the first to leave the home when she was eleven and Narcissa felt a deep sense of loss. She couldn't understand why it wasn't her turn to go to Hogwarts too, but she gave up on her conniving to get to go quickly as she realized she had much more to learn from her mother. Andromeda and Narcissa grew close during that time without Bellatrix, and Narcissa started to sympathize with Andromeda's plight of being the middle-child even though she was not willing to share her mother with her. She was even more sad to see Andromeda board the scarlet train and cried for a while afterward until her mother convinced her that crying was not lady-like. She didn't like being home alone without her sisters and hated it when her mother left her home alone with her father. She clung to her mother even more than usual during that time and waited impatiently for her day to come. When it finally did in 1967 she found that she had mixed feelings on the subject. She desperately wanted to go to school to see her sisters and learn magic, but at the same time she didn't want to leave her mother. She made a promise to Druella that she would write home every weekend and was gone off to Hogwarts a week later.
When the sorting hat fell on Narcissa's head it did not hesitate for a second. She was a Black girl and she was expected to be in Slytherin. She held all of the qualities of the Slytherin house and it really was no question. She bounded to the Slytherin table and sat down between her sisters to announce her coming to Hogwarts. She hadn't realized at the time that she had two elder sisters and a couple of cousin's shadows to live under. She would have to pave her own way.
It was hard at first, living in those shadows, but Narcissa took the constant comparisons in stride. She knew beyond a doubt that she was better than both of her sisters in every aspect. She was prettier, more polite, held the proper friends, and in her opinion she was the smartest Black in her generation. She was actually quite intelligent, especially when it came to Potions and Charms. While she excelled in those classes she did not do as well in Herbology or Muggle Studies. She failed to see why they were so important so she did not spend as much time on those classes as she did the others. One of her favorite classes however (as it was with most young girls her age) was Care of Magical Creatures. She loved meeting the unicorns and anything that was fluffy and cute. Still, even Care of Magical Creatures couldn't rival with how much she absolutely adored Potions.
It wasn't until her second year that she caught the eye of Professor Horace Slughorn, the Slytherin Head of House. He had a habit of 'collecting' students and since she was a Black and intelligent to boot she was invited to join the Slug Club. She was extremely excited at the opportunity and felt honored to be in the same room as some of the other elite Slytherin students. She did not care, however, for the muggleborns that seemed to somehow weasel their way into the club as well. She made it a point to be rude to them, though in the way that her mother had taught her. Even though her mother had taught her well, it still wasn't enough to stop her from getting a lecture from Professor Slughorn about tolerance. She disliked the teacher from that point forward, but remained civil as he was the professor of her favorite subject.
Narcissa had several Slytherin friends throughout her years at Hogwarts and she was never found without at least two of them at her side. The girls did everything together from eating breakfast to going to the loo. They gossiped about anything and everyone. While Narcissa was not considered the Queen Bee of the group, she certainly thought she was. It wasn't until her 5th year that things really changed for her in that aspect. She was made prefect which came at no surprise to her. She had been vying for the position ever since she set foot inside Hogwarts and her goal was to make Head Girl. She started bossing not only the other houses and first years around, but also her friends. They had no choice but to follow and they actually reveled in the fact that one of their own could doll out punishments. They laughed at the poor first years when Narcissa was cruel to them.
It was also in Narcissa's 5th year that Lucius Malfoy, a boy that came from a good pureblood family, asked her out on a date. She had the biggest crush on him for years now and she agreed to date him only if her mother approved. She wrote home to Druella immediately and received a return letter telling her that the Malfoy family was a reputable one and she should cease the opportunity to court the boy. Narcissa told Lucius the news and they began their life-long relationship. Narcissa could no longer be found with her swarm of Slytherin friends, but rather always at Lucius' side. Her friends became disgusted with the amount she spoke about Lucius and all of the lovey-dovey nick-names she came up for him. She didn't care though, Lucius was hers.
6th year came and went without note. She was busy between Lucius and keeping up with her classes, and Slytherin even lost the house cup that year. It wasn't until 7th year that things really set into motion for Narcissa. The subject of marriage had finally been brought up and though Lucius hadn't started the conversation Narcissa knew that she would stop at nothing to have him as her husband. He had graduated the year before and she started speaking of how things were going to happen. They would get engaged as soon as she graduated from Hogwarts and be married no later than a year later. Any engagement longer than a year was just embarrassing. She had made up Lucius' mind for him.
Narcissa didn't get the Head Girl badge in her 7th year much to her dismay, but she ended up being busy enough without it. She had her NEWTs to study for, a débutante ball to organize, Slug Club events to attend, her prefect rounds and a boyfriend to keep happy. In the middle of all of the hard work bad news came her way. Andromeda was pregnant with a muggle-borns child. Narcissa was completely aghast and helped her parents to convince Andromeda to leave the baby with Ted and marry Theodore Nott Sr.
During her 7th year she worked harder than she had ever worked before in her life, but eventually she got her NEWTs, her graduation and her ball. The débutante ball wasn't as a joyous occasion as one would think it should have been for her due to her sister being absent, but she had already made up her mind on who she wanted to marry. It was just protocol at that point. Lucius proposed to her under the stars that very night with a large diamond the size of a rock and Narcissa was quick to accept.
Narcissa became Mrs. Lucius Malfoy in the Spring of 1975 during a huge and extremely expensive ceremony. Her parents bought the happy couple a manor for their wedding present and they moved in after the honeymoon. As far as Narcissa was concerned at this point? Life was perfect. She was married to the man of her dreams, had enough money to keep herself occupied and the war that was waging outside her doors did not concern her a bit. Lucius was there to keep her safe. But they both agreed that they wouldn't try for a son until it was safe to do so.
The war waged on and Lucius became more and more involved over the years. Narcissa found herself waiting up for him on numerous nights wondering if he were dead or alive. She no longer felt safe shopping in Diagon Alley and she became a practical prisoner in her own home. The only thing that got her by was the few social gatherings she would throw at the Manor which ended up being full of Death Eaters. Eventually her friends stopped coming out of fear of them, and Narcissa felt very alone. She started to think about having a child if only to quell her loneliness.
Several things happened in 1979 that broke Narcissa. She became pregnant and instead of Lucius being there for her he spent even more time away from home. There was a wall growing between the once happy couple and Narcissa didn't understand why. It wasn't until after Draco was born that Narcissa found out the reason when little Pansy Malfoy was left on the Malfoy's front steps. The fight that ensued was terrible, but Narcissa decided to stay with Lucius if only at the urging of Druella and her want to be a part of her son's life. She grew to resent Lucius and was frigid toward him and Pansy.
Narcissa made sure that Draco had only the finest things and spoiled him rotten. He was her whole life, he was her reason for putting up with Lucius and Pansy and she loved him more than life itself. Narcissa even went so far as to teach Draco French and spend hours upon hours with him as a child. She had a favorite child and that child was Draco. She filled the role of evil step mother to Pansy rather fabulously.
When the time came for Draco and Pansy to leave for Hogwarts Narcissa had a decision to make. Was she going to stay with Lucius and remain miserable without Draco there for support or was she going to leave Lucius behind and forget about him? Narcissa never had the chance to make that decision. Six months after her children went off to Hogwarts she was kidnapped by Antonin Dolohov and taken to Ukraine. He saved her and it wasn't long before Narcissa had a deep respect for Antonin and his family. He gave her some form of religion as well as a love for all things in nature. She grew calm and let Antonin wash away the last 12 years of her life to become a new person.
